If you’ve spent any amount of time in Japan, you probably know that Starbucks Japan tends to come out with insane seasonal Frappuccino flavours. This summer Starbucks Japan is bringing back the previously released s’more frap. This time around they’ve given it a special makeover and are calling it the ‘S’more Crispy Marshmallow Frappuccino’.

We spotted a sign advertising this new treat on our way into the office and of course we had to give it a try. For work.

Just take my money, Starbucks

Since s’mores are a very American thing, most of the people on the Breaker Japan team had no idea what the heck they were. As the resident Canadian, let me break it down for you in case you’re not from the Americas.

Campers usually make s’mores in the fire using a piping-hot toasted marshmallow and a square of chocolate sandwiched in between two graham crackers (similar to digestive biscuits). The hot marshmallow melts the chocolate and sticks the cracker sandwich together for your eating enjoyment. If you have a sweet tooth, they are definitely something you will enjoy.

Now that you’re educated – let’s dive into this yummy frap. The drink contains no coffee – just sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. The base is a chocolate flavoured icy slush with Starbucks’ own blend of ‘s’more toppings’ mixed into the drink.

Can I just have a cup of this stuff to go?

The bits of mini marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker crumb give the drink a satisfying crunchy texture.  It is served with a bubble tea straw so you can drink up with ease.  Topped off with whipped cream and more crunchy s’more topping, it’s the perfect summer indulgence.

As a bonus, our lactose-intolerant friends can rejoice, because the drink is actually dairy-free (minus the whipped cream).

If you’re in Japan – make sure to try the Crunchy S’more Frappuccino before it disappears!
