The Anime Japan 2018 convention went down over the weekend of March 24 and 25. We headed over to Tokyo Big Sight to check out all the anime happenings.
For 2018, Anime Japan was celebrating its 5th year, and the event took up the entire East hall of Tokyo Big Sight. There were 6 areas devoted to booth space and special stages for various presentations. There was even a giant food court and kids play area.
There was a lot to see, but because Tokyo Big Sight is so huge, even when the crowds got deep, there was still plenty of space to maneuver.
That’s not to say the place wasn’t bustling. Quite a large number of people turned out for the Anime Japan 2018. The lines were wrapped around the convention center when the event, as to be expected for an something like this.
Inside, there were tons of booths from big companies showing off their latest creations. Plenty of space was reserved for buying trinkets and merch as well. Square Enix, Toho Animation, Netflix, and Pony Canyon were just a few of the heavy hitters among the crowd.
However, even with all these big names around, we also found some more obscure things, like the Nihon Kogakuin College and Tokyo University of Technology. They were doing a live manga drawing presentation and a voice-acting competition.
And of course, you can’t have an anime convention without cosplay. Anime Japan had everything from the sexy to the cool to the downright strange. Par for the course for an anime con, really.
All in all, it was a fantastic experience. If you’re an anime fan and you happen to find yourself in the Tokyo area in March, you owe it to yourself to check out Anime Japan.
