Adult Swim has recently released a new trailer showing off clips of the upcoming two new seasons of FLCL and their release dates.

The two new season will be named Progressive and Alternative respectively. Progressive will air starting on June 2 with Alternative following in September. Each season will consist of 6 new episodes.

The trailer for the new seasons feature American voice actress Kari Wahlgren reprising her role as the dubious Haruko Haruhara. She narrates her plans to return to the city of Mabase, continuing the storyline of the original series. No information has been released yet regarding a Japanese voice cast.

Adult Swim released this official synopsis shortly after announcing production of the new seasons:

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko return to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go?

The original series of FLCL was a completely Japanese production by Production I.G., Gainax, and King Records. The new FLCL seasons Progressive and Alternative will be co-produced by Production I.G., Toho Animation, and Adult Swim.

Adult Swim officially announced a revival consisting of season 2 and season 3 back in 2016.
