The fifth annual Pikachu Outbreak will be held this year on August 10th through the 16th. This year’s theme is “Science is Amazing!” The event will be in multiple locations around Yokohama. Last year’s event was the first to officially incorporate Pokémon GO, and there was a special sign-up only event catering to players. However, this year there is no affiliated Pokémon GO event due to safety concerns.
Each day of the festival, there will be multiple performances in various locations around Yokohama. The performances are punctuated with dancers in Pikachu costumes. There will also be Eevee sightings and performances, which may coincide with the Eevee event in Pokémon GO that is going on the same weekend as Pikachu Outbreak.
The official site claims 1500 Pikachus will be milling about. They can break into dance at anytime, so there’s a chance to see some action outside of the official performance times.
Last year, the typhoon affected the performance schedules resulting in cancellations on the last few days. If you plan on attending be sure to get in as soon as possible in case of cancellations due to extreme weather.
